What can I do to prevent pests from coming into my home?
Your Ecologix service professional will inspect your property during your service and provide a list of recommendations for correcting conditions that contribute to pest infestations. He or she can show you these areas and may even suggest a course of action.
For example, your firewood pile may need to be moved away from the house. There may be cracks around the windows and doors that need to be sealed. Or, you might not be aware that the screen is missing or damaged on your foundation vent that could permit mice to enter. Making recommended modifications will help prevent new infestations.
Are mosquitoes a health threat?
They can be. Mosquitoes transmit at least three human diseases that have been found here in the United States. All of them are potentially fatal. What are they? The West Nile Virus, Malaria and Dengue Fever.
What can I do reduce the risks from mosquitoes?
In Florida, where it is warm generally through out the year, mosquitoes are usually active up until late winter, around December. Here are some things we recommend to stay mosquito free:

- Eliminate or replace all standing water at least once a week. This includes ponds or bird baths.
- Remove unneeded vegetation, trash from around any standing water sources that cannot be changed, dumped or removed.
- Introduce mosquito eating fish such as gambusia, green sunfish, bluegills and minnows to standing water.
- Screen windows, doors and other openings with fine mesh, sealing around all screen edges and keeping doors and windows shut to prevent entry.
- Use repellent on exposed skin whenever and wherever mosquitoes are likely to bite. The most effective repellents currently available contains the active ingredient N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET), in concentrations up to about 35%.
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, preferably treated with a repellant as well.
